Over the past week we have enjoyed the gustatory delights of the Damariscotta area, with the Damariscotta River Grill being one of our favorites. Our host at our B&B had suggested that we make reservations early: he said that even on a weekday we would likely find the Damariscotta River Grill to be busy. He wasn't kidding: we arrived early (for us) at 5:30, and as we ate more and more people kept arriving, and with good reason. Our dinners were exquisitely prepared, with a lot of attention to detail. We shared a plate of mussels as an appetizer: perfection! My wife had the duck, and pronounced the risotto about the best she'd ever had. I had the scallops that were lightly breaded, and perfectly cooked. Service was impeccable, and waitress was knowledgeable and informative. There is plenty of parking within a short walk. Damariscotta River Grill is clean and inviting, a most pleasant atmosphere for a truly memorable dining experience.

“Our favorite restaurant in mid-coast Maine. We've eaten here dozens of times, always on Saturday nights. The menu is creative and the food is always fresh and well prepared. The service is unfailingly excellent.”

“Scallops to die for. Very lightly crumbed...cooked perfectly sweet on the tongue. Some of the best I've ever had. My wife had the scallops with an orange glaze that also was excellent. Rest of the table had oysters, a lobster risotto. Also had a french cab franc by the glass that was fantastic. Desserts were also great.”

“The pumpkin soup with hazelnuts was decadent and the oysters were beyond delicious. Shucked and served to perfection. Our five year old swears the Clam Chowder is the best things she’s ever eaten. Thanks DRG.”

“Pleasant setting with fantastic service. The food is exceptional. We had lamb sliders to start. Homemade brioche bun, succulent meat. Dinner was pork belly on pumpkin purée with spatzle, salmon with wild rice and braised kale. Dessert was blueberry cobbler with ice cream and bread pudding. The taste still is in my head. Can't wait to go back.”

“I have to say thank you again for your amazing hospitality today when my family and I stopped in for some sandwiches to go. Not only were you all over the top nice while remaining sincere and down to earth but the sandwiches were super delicious. As well as the breakfast treats you snuck in our bag. I want the recipe for those ginger scones! I was moved by your warmth. It made my day. We're looking forward to coming for dinner!”
